- Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14
- Bacillus subtilis
- Shouchella clausii
- Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS)
Why Spore Probiotics?
Spore probiotics are more stable during processing and storage than other types of probiotics and are naturally resilient, able to withstand harsh environmental conditions in the water, food, soil, and gastrointestinal tract. These specialized bacteria can survive long-term in extreme temperatures, without water or nutrients, changes in pH, or being exposed to UV radiation and chemicals. They are resistant to antibiotics and may be used at the same time to support a healthier gut microbiome.
ProDURA® Spore Probiotics
Super Dophilus contains ProDURA® spore probiotics with the live strains of Bacillus coagulans, Bacillus subtilis, and Shouchella clausii (formerly known as Bacillus clausii).
Unlike many other probiotics that fail to make it past the stomach and its digestive juices, ProDURA® spore probiotics are remarkably resistant to heat, stomach acid, bile acids, and salt, as well as antibiotics without any decline in potency.
This enables them to reach the large intestine where they germinate and multiply, crowding out and degrading non-beneficial bacteria helping improve microbiome balance in the gut and reduce the production of lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and other immune cell waste.
Spore probiotics also help with the production of several enzymes, antioxidants, and surfactants for gut lining and motility. These strains enhance gut barrier function and increase mucin and butyrate short chain fatty acid production. They support vitamin B2/riboflavin and nitric oxide production.
ProDURA® strains may also increase CD4 + T cells and modulate inflammatory cytokines promoting digestive health and immune function. They increase the production of IL-10, TH17 and T-reg cells involved with immune inflammation modulation throughout the body. Spore probiotics also support cell to cell signaling, apoptosis, immune gene expression, and contribute to gut homeostasis by balancing the immune system.
Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium
Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are the most common beneficial non-spore probiotics used to support a healthy gut microbiome. These genres of probiotics enhance the gut microbiome and interact with the gut-brain axis affecting gastrointestinal health as well as brain health.
They enhance the epithelial barrier which promotes the adherence of beneficial bacteria to the gut wall while suppressing non-beneficial bacteria. They modulate the immune system and produce bacteriocins, a type of antimicrobial compound. Beneficial bacteria support the production of neurotransmitters and support healthy mood and cognitive functions.
When probiotics are combined with prebiotics (like dietary fiber or FOS) to make synbiotics, there is improved production of short chain fatty acids like butyrate, antioxidants, and vitamins. Synbiotics enhance the metabolism of fat and glucose levels, absorption of nutrients, liver detoxification and help to reduce the overall metabolic toxin load.
Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium create a cascade of beneficial health implications for bone density, brain, heart, body weight and metabolism, gallbladder and bile acid metabolism, urinary tract, dental, and overall health in adults. Furthermore, studies show that Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium supplementation may aid in comforting infants with crying and fussy behaviors.
Recent clinical trials and other research findings further document the benefits and activities of the probiotic strains found in Super Dophilus.
Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04
Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04 is a hearty probiotic strain resistant to antibiotics with an excellent safety record. Randomized placebo-controlled trials show Bl-04 counteracts dysbiosis related to antibiotic resistant microbes. Other benefits include increased production of natural antimicrobial compounds in the gut such as short chain fatty acids, hydrogen peroxide, and nitric oxide as well as protection of the intestinal lining from germs adhering to it and disrupting the barrier.
A 2025 study confirmed that Bl-04 protects the gut mucosal barrier from irritating metabolic compounds helping to maintain healthy motility and intestinal comfort. Furthermore, it improves tight junctions and intestinal permeability integrity while reducing cytokine production and inflammatory load.
Another randomized clinical trial showed that healthy adult participants who received Bl-04 experienced less viral shedding in nasal mucous after being exposed to the rhinovirus. The group received probiotic supplementation for 28 days prior to exposure.
Bifidobacterium bifidum BB-06, Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14
Clinical trials (2021) with Bifidobacterium bifidum BB-06 and Bl-04 as well as Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14 showed an improvement in several biomarkers and joint comfort. For 60 days, participants received a combination of these probiotics. Results showed a reduction in TNF-a, IL-6, and other white blood cell markers, increased antioxidant levels and decreased oxidative stress markers.
Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14 supports healthy cholesterol metabolism and clearance. Furthermore, La-14 has been shown to be highly beneficial for women’s vaginal health helping to protect these delicate mucosal tissues. It helps to colonize in the mucosal lining which crowds out and protects against non-beneficial microbes while reducing production of inflammatory compounds. Other La-14 clinical trials have found beneficial effects for men’s and women’s bladder and urinary tract health.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG
Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) has a long-standing history of beneficial probiotic effects. It withstands stomach acid and bile acids and can adhere to the intestinal tract supporting a healthy gut microbiome. LGG helps your gut-immune surveillance response team recognize microbes on foods and turns on antimicrobial activities which interfere with their threat and survival.
LGG supports a healthy immune balance of Th17 and T-reg cells modulating TNF-a and IL-17 activities in the gut lining, bones, and other tissues. These activities protect the gut mucosal lining as well as bone density from estrogen insufficiency related changes.
LGG use during pregnancy may support infant health and immune tolerance to foods and in children as it can help the absorption of nutrients for immune, GI, and respiratory health.
Cutting-edge research showed the LGG enriches the gut microbiome, attenuating the release of metabolic toxins from a high fat diet into circulation. This aids in the protection of the delicate elastic endothelial lining of blood vessels supporting cardiovascular health.
Other new research shows LGG protects the gut lining and other tissues in the body from mold toxins in the food supply. It supports antioxidant pathways and protects mitochondria activities in the gut and kidneys as it engages SIRT3, an antiaging pathway.
A Healthy Microbiome is Invaluable
The effects of a healthy gut microbiome and its innumerable connections to your body is invaluable. Modern living with the Western Diet of high fat, high sugar, ultra-processed nutrient poor food causes enormous burden to the gastrointestinal tract. Furthermore, numerous medications, environmental toxins (pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, plastics/microplastics/plasticizers, petroleum by-products), alcohol, stress, gluten intolerance, and more change the gut microbiome.
The benefits of 21st Century knowledge are that we have resources available to support a healthy gut microbiome despite these challenges. Super Dophilus synbiotic formula provides a solid tool for your gastrointestinal health and is shelf stable. It may be taken with Tributyrin Plus, Fiber Helper, Digestive Helper, d-Limonone, Quercetin Phytosome + Luteolin, Vitamin D3 + K2, and other nutrients for synergistic, comprehensive gut support. Consider these tools for a healthier gut microbiome and healthier you!
