Why Whey? 5 Reasons It Whey Beats Plant-Based Protein for Muscle & Metabolism

May 6, 2025

Question: What exactly is whey protein? Can I consume it if I am vegetarian or vegan?

Answer: Whey protein is one of the most bioavailable sources of protein, meaning it is easily absorbed and utilized by the body. Unlike plant-based proteins, whey contains all essential amino acids and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) like leucine, which are essential for muscle repair, immune function, metabolism, and overall health. Whey protein is also the only natural source of bioactive peptides. These glycomacropeptides support gut health, enhance mineral absorption, and help control appetite. Whey is a vegetarian micronutrient and one of the by-products of dairy milk, but it is not a vegan product.

Question: Wellness Resources Protein is more expensive than some other products I’ve seen. Is there something different about it than other competitors?

Answer: Wellness Resources Daily Protein and Daily Protein Plus are superior-quality whey protein isolate powdered supplements. The whey is sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised cows living on a small Irish family farm. The cows on this farm are fed and treated with no hormones, antibiotics, or sweeteners.

Compare this to other protein powders, which are filled with fillers, preservatives, sweeteners and sourced from cows eating who-knows-what. Many protein supplements are labeled as high-protein health foods, but their hidden ingredients, proprietary formulas, and addition of sweeteners, fillers, binders, and other additives make it difficult to know their true nutritional makeup.

Wellness Resources is a small family business. We manufacture all our supplements in the USA in facilities that follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). All our supplements are third-party tested and GMO-free. Dedicated to transparency in labeling, and the purity of our nutraceuticals, Wellness Resources is not affiliated with big business, big ag, big pharma or owned by a large conglomerate.

Furthermore, our Daily Protein supplement:

✔ Is produced using crossflow filtration to preserve protein integrity while removing cholesterol, lactose, and casein and the need to add additional sweeteners

✔ Provides 21-26 grams of high-quality protein per scoop!

Q: How do I take a protein supplement? I have not used one before.

Answer: Our whey protein is easily digestible and mixes smoothly into:

  • Water, dairy, or plant-based milks for a quick protein boost
  • Smoothies– Blend with yogurt, fruit, or nut butter for a meal replacement
  • Oatmeal, yogurt, or baked goods for an easy protein enhancement

To get the maximum benefit from supplementation, try upping your protein intake right at breakfast with 1-2 scoops. Aim for 30 grams of protein at breakfast in the morning to maintain lean mass and dispel food cravings throughout the day. Wellness Resources has developed an extensive recipe library of nutritious protein smoothies.

Q: What are the benefits of protein supplementation?

Daily Protein is ideal for athletes, kids, older adults, pregnant people, those on a liquid diet, or anyone needing a convenient protein source without the extra sugar, fillers, or artificial ingredients. We may be biased, but we believe everyone can benefit from this foundational supplement.

Question: How Much Protein Do I Need?

According to our government an adequate amount of protein is 10 percent of your daily calories (200 calories of a 2,000 calorie diet or 50 grams of protein per day). The same amount is suggested for a 110 pound woman and a 180 pound man. No thought is given to the amount of physical activity or health issues of any one person or to the quality of protein consumed.

A much better way to determine the proper amount of protein needed is to get at least half of your ideal body weight in grams of protein per day. If you have a physically demanding lifestyle (work or exercise) you will need closer to 2/3 of your ideal weight in grams of protein per day. Athletes, overweight individuals, and those recovering from an accident or surgery may need even more protein
