US Olympic Athletes to Boycott China’s Food Supply
April 22, 2008
Knowing its athletes were unlikely to win any medals eating McDonalds, and realizing all other options were based on the quality of the Chinese food supply, the United States Olympic Committee has decided to go against the grain and bring along the food it needs to feed its athletes. When this move was announced several months back, it drew international criticism.
Now it looks like a very wise idea. China has just announced new regulatory proposals that will put company executives in jail for the rest of their lives if they make adulterated food. And of course who can forget that they just finished executing the former head of their FDA. China’s reliance on extreme measures to stop massive adulteration of their food supply signals just how bad the situation is, both within the country and in its exports. Tourists at the Olympic games may also want to bring some food along, just in case.
