From supporting immune health and cellular function to protecting your brain and skin, discover the multiple benefits of these amazing flavonoids.

Quercetin and Luteolin: Family of Flavonoids

Quercetin is a long-standing customer favorite, now available in phytosomal form with phospholipids for significantly enhanced absorption. This means you can take fewer capsules and achieve greater benefits!

Luteolin is a new addition to our supplement line. This potent phytonutrient has a long history of health benefits, making it a stellar nutrient for any wellness regime!

Luteolin works on many cellular level including IL-37 and IL-38 immune cytokines tissues to suppress NF kappa B activity and many other inflammatory signals that provoke cell stress in blood vessels, nerves, and other tissues. Its extraordinary benefits extend far beyond that.

What Are Flavonoids?

Quercetin and luteolin both belong to the flavonoid family. These natural plant compounds are widely recognized for their ability to prevent the formation of free radicals and quench existing free radicals. This supports healthy DNA, proteins, and cells.

Quercetin-rich foods include onions, cherries, grapes, berries, apples, and some types of lettuce. Luteolin is naturally found in artichoke, carrots, celery, olive oil, oregano, peppermint, peppers, pomegranate, rosemary, thyme and other plants. These compounds are found in limited amounts in these foods and are not always easily absorbed.

Anti-Aging Benefits

Both quercetin and luteolin possess several anti-aging activities to help expand your health span. Their antioxidant properties protect DNA and fight reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation, and inflammatory signaling compounds including NF-kappa B, p53 and Nrf2. They also assist with microbial recognition and other cellular mechanisms like PI3K, STAT3, IGF1R, and HER2.

These flavonoids provide neuroprotection, DNA-protective support, antioxidant effects, immune modulation, improved cell-signaling, skin protection, and aid in pancreatic and insulin function, mitochondrial activity, and much more.

They also enhance autophagy and mitophagy, which are cellular cleanup mechanisms that remove and recycle broken or dysfunctional cells and mitochondria. Mitophagy is especially important for maintaining mitochondria efficiency dynamics and your overall health vitality. They support selective apoptosis, i.e. the removal of old cells.

Insulin Sensitivity and Metabolic Activity

Both flavonoids are supportive for healthy metabolic activity. Luteolin helps protect pancreatic beta cell structure and improve their function. It enhances insulin sensitivity throughout the body, including the brain, which reduces oxidative stress and metabolic waste products that burden neurological function.

Quercetin protects the liver and gut from oxidative stress, supports insulin metabolism within the liver and guards against age-related pancreatic decline and fat buildup. It also modulates the gut microbiome and supports intestinal barrier repair, which helps preserve insulin and metabolic function.

Immune Benefits

Plants have several natural mechanisms to defend against germs found in the environment. Flavonoids impair germ growth, their energy metabolism, and affect cell membrane functions.  Quercetin and luteolin also inhibit the growth of various bacteria, fungi, and viruses and hinder biofilm formation. These compounds work in similar ways in humans to support immune defense.

Mast Cells

Quercetin and luteolin impact multiple immune functions, especially those related to mast cell activity. Mast cells are considered “the immune gate to the brain” and are found in blood vessels, the blood brain barrier, and other organs and tissues. They are a link between the immune, endocrine, and nervous systems where they release histamine, numerous proinflammatory cytokines and activate T cells.

Luteolin blocks this inflammatory action and protects the brain and other tissues affected by mast cell activity.

Quercetin inhibits mast cell release of histamine and helps block IL-8, TNF alpha, substance P, and NF-kappa B activities. Quercetin is an effective natural approach for managing mast cell release of histamine.

Symptoms of histamine intolerance may include fatigue, discomfort, sinus congestion, occasional GI distress, skin sensitivity, or flushing.

Brain and Neuroprotective Effects

Luteolin protects the brain by inhibiting the action of substance P, mast cell release of histamine, and stress hormones like corticotropin-releasing hormone. This aids in protecting structures like the limbic system of the brain and promotes healthy aging, neurological function, cognitive and mood support for all ages.

Both luteolin and quercetin have other widespread antiaging, protective effects in the brain. Research shows that flavonoids like luteolin “communicate with different signaling pathways, modulating their activities, hinder nerve apoptosis induced by neurotoxic substances thereby providing highly valuable neuroprotection”.

Glial Cell Activity

Additionally, quercetin and luteolin calm glial cells activation and other nerves in the brain. Glial cells, which are resident immune and cleanup cells in the brain become overactivated in response to things that stress the brain. They are responsible for keeping a healthy balance throughout the nervous system. Overworked glial cells adversely affect mental clarity, mood and stress tolerance, sleep quality, and lead to brain fog, irritability, and compromised cognitive abilities. Luteolin and quercetin provide protection to glial cell function and help them stay in balance.

Mood Support

Review studies show that both quercetin and luteolin support mood health through their numerous antioxidant properties. They modulate Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF), which is necessary for cellular repair, neuroplasticity, and stress tolerance. BDNF plays a critical role in learning, mood regulation, and memory in key brain regions like the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex.

Acetylcholine Support

Acetylcholine is the brain’s primary neurotransmitter for memory, but also deeply affects parasympathetic nervous system function (rest, relaxation, and digest), vagus nerve function, and much more.

Quercetin helps preserve acetylcholine by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE), the enzyme that breaks it down. Luteolin inhibits butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), another enzyme that breaks acetylcholine down.

Skin Protection

Luteolin offers natural protection for the skin by partially absorbing UVA and UVB radiation. It also blocks numerous pro-inflammatory compounds and improves signaling pathways in the skin. Luteolin has been found to be a highly promising compound to help your skin age well.

Quercetin also protects the skin from oxidative stress and UV-related damage, radiation and aging. It supports skin epithelial tissues from oxidative stress supporting tissue repair and skin barrier health.

Advanced Absorption Quercetin Phytosome + Luteolin

We’ve combined two highly effective flavonoids in one supplement to support your health span and longevity goals. What sets this product apart is not just the powerful combination of quercetin and luteolin, but the advanced delivery system that ensures your body can actually absorb and use these amazing compounds.

Quercetin Phytosome is formulated using patented phytosome technology that binds the flavonoids to sunflower-derived phospholipids. This innovative form overcomes the absorption and digestion challenges traditional forms often face. A recent clinical trial demonstrated that this enhanced phospholipid delivery system provides a remarkable 20-fold increase in bioavailability! This means smaller doses deliver significantly more powerful and consistent results.

The phytosomal structure also improves intestinal absorption, solubility, and stability in the bloodstream. This helping quercetin reach brain, liver, skin, and blood vessels, and your whole body where its antioxidant and other immune modulating actions are needed.

This is only the tip of the iceberg for what these flavonoids provide for your health! If your diet lacks these vital compounds, consider adding Quercetin Phytosome + Luteolin to your supplement regime. Dosage is 1 to 2 capsules per day. Children and adults may use the product to support immune system function, brain health and mood, skin, mitochondria, metabolism, gut, and overall health!
