 Neurontin Increases Suicide Risk
Pfizer's Neurontin1, a drug that is widely used for off-label purposes to place a Band-Aid on a variety of nerve problems has been found to increases the risk of suicide and violent death.

The drug company has already paid massive fines for the illegal off-label promotion of the drug – but the damage is already done as doctors continue to use it to treat symptoms (never solving anything). The ongoing profits far outweigh the fines. This means fines are simply built into the cost of the drug as part of doing business. The drug is functionally addictive; meaning that when a person tries to get off it whatever symptoms it was suppressing are typically worse.

Trileptal, a competitor made by Novartis, was also implicated in the study and like Neurontin has been illegally promoted for off-label sales. In January, Novartis said it would plead guilty to violating U.S. laws relating to off-label marketing and promotion of Trileptal. Drug companies pushing “mental health” and “nerve health” drugs operate with the morality of street drug cartels – not caring who they injure as long as they can create addicts that have to keep using. Americans should be furious that the sales of these excessively expressive drugs drive up the cost of healthcare and often fall onto the shoulders of taxpayers – a bonanza for drug thugs that at this time is certain to expand under Obamacare.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. It identified 827 suicidal acts (801 attempted suicides and 26 completed suicides) and an additional 41 violent deaths.
