Gamma Tocotrienol Offsets High Levels of Radiation Exposure

A new animal study shows that gamma tocotrienol1 can powerfully offset the adverse effects of radiation exposure, including the reduction of peroxynitrite, the most damaging free radical.
Exposure to radiation occurs at potentially harmful levels in everyday life including too much sun, x-rays, and flying in airplanes. Serious radiation exposure is a hazard of modern medicine, with CT scans and radiation treatment for cancer inducing significant radiation-damage as an adverse side effect that can cause problems even years down the road.
In essence, radiation exposure is a form of stress. Your body can handle a certain amount of it without any problem at all and once a line of too much is crossed, which will vary from person to person, then free radical damage is accelerated and DNA damage accumulates, increasing the risk for cancer and accelerated aging.

This new study shows that gamma tocotrienol, in response to a high dose of radiation, bolsters the natural defense so that antioxidant systems are maintained.
