Annual Flu Vaccines for all Children aged 6 months to 18 years: Good idea or Big Pharma Money Maker?
I just heard a piece on National Public Radio’s Day to Day about the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation that Influenza vaccination coverage be extended to annual dosing for all children aged 6 months to 18 years based on advice from a U.S. health panel. The additional vaccinations would increase the number of children receiving the vaccine by 30 million.

Influenza is undoubtedly dangerous and kids are certainly vulnerable to the most vicious strains and complications of the flu. What I struggle with is the way in which this recommendation will line the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies who previously lost money on the production of flu vaccine. The big money makers for Big Pharma are the buzz drugs. The pills pushed for blood pressure, cholesterol, erectile dysfunction, restless legs, and depression are the trendiest and most requested thanks to snazzy marketing and inspirational commercials. The flu vaccine is marketed in a more utilitarian way. Scare tactics. In other words, get the flu vaccine or you’re risking the lives of your children and all children everywhere. A recommendation to dose all children annually until the age of 18 will cause parents to feel irresponsible if they decide to take their chances and fortify their children by building up their immune systems.
Aside from corporate influence over health policy is the scary fact that a preservative containing mercury called Thimersol is in flu vaccines and while the FDA contends that the amount is negligible it’s impossible to say how much is too much for each and every body particularly little bodies. I personally have been able to fight the flu for 30 years without one flu shot. My top 3 immune support supplements are: Immune Booster, Immune Plus, GI Soother.
Though the connection between Thimersol and Autism has been suggested and not proven that is little comfort to parents of children whose mental and social development comes to a screeching halt. There is so much unknown about what Autism is and why it happens. Attention should be paid to any possible cause and Byron wrote an article about the Mercury-Autism connection last month.
The most important thing to do is educate your self about what is going into your and your children’s bodies. I’m not suggesting that flu vaccination is a bad idea for every child but your body’s immunity needs some exposure to illness to be strong and if a child’s immune system is already suppressed a vaccine can do damage. The overuse of vaccine and antibiotics makes the bugs stronger not our bodies. We need to get smart and not blindly acquiesce to governmental recommendation or worse, mandates.
