Menstrual Difficulties

Q:   I am a 46 year old woman and also have many menstrual difficulties, i.e. fatigue, bloating, fluid retention, breast tenderness, but I also am developing facial hair. This is really disturbing to me. What can I do to combat these?

A:   The best nutrients would be Daily Energy Multiple Vitamin, Female Plus, Thyroid Helper, Iosol Iodine, Mangosteen Plus, Black Currant Oil, and Daily Balancer. To specifically address the hormonal imbalances driving the facial hair growth, you may want add Saw Palmetto into your regime. It can be very helpful for women who develop unwanted facial hair growth.

Help! Heavy Menstrual Cycle

Q:   My daughter is experiencing a lot of difficulties with her menstrual cycle. She is 19 and has had very heavy periods, menstrual cramping that prevented her from going to classes, and experiences mood changes and breast tenderness the week before the cycle. Do you have any suggestions?

A:   The symptoms that are listed above may be a reflection of an imbalance with the progesterone and estrogen hormones. They may also be worsened if there is any thyroid distress or anemias present. Daily Energy Multiple Vitamin, Female Plus, Black Currant Oil, and Blood Builder would be basic supplements to work with. Additional products that may be added in to provide greater support include Iosol Iodine for breast tenderness, Daily Balancer and Fiber Helper to assist in removing the non-beneficial estrogens out of the body. Additional B Vitamins are frequently helpful as is getting adequate minerals and protein, such as the Coral Calcium and Daily Protein. These later products will help the body deal with the energy demands and mood challenges that are frequent challenges of the menstrual cycle.

Can Menstrual Cycles be Comfortable?

Q:   What should a woman do and what does it indicate if a woman is experiencing extremely heavy menstrual cycles, uncomfortable cramping that lasts the duration, irritability, edema in her lower legs, and breast tenderness immediately preceding her cycle and a significant drop in mood and energy immediately following and a tendency toward thicker growth of hair around the lip and chin. Is this a significant hormone imbalance? Excess estrogen? I think that women are often embarrassed to ask straight forward questions about their cycles if they seem abnormal. There is a misconception that you’re supposed to suffer when you have your period and either deal with it or medicate it. I’m wondering how you can nutritionally foster a healthier environment for your body’s reproductive functions.

A:   When given the proper nutrients, the female hormonal cycle should not be the test of endurance and mood every month. Having enough B vitamins, minerals, and good oils are the basics. Addressing the underlying issues of hormonal imbalances of estrogen and progesterone, adrenals, and thyroid stress also is an important part of healthy menstrual cycles and the demands of the body. Making sure adequate sleep, sun exposure for Vitamin D levels, good quality foods from organic sources, and stress management are imperative basic skills for good health. Use proper nutrition to address the issues if additional support is needed.
