Carnosine Helps Fat Metabolism

The metabolic function of your stored fat is stimulated by your nerves. A large problem occurs as you age and your fat becomes less responsive to nerve stimulation, a problem I named “adrenaline resistance” in my 2002 book, Mastering Leptin. This is a key mechanism explaining one main way that stress leads to obesity. A new study shows that carnosine1 promotes the normal function of nerves to stimulate the breakdown of fat via histamine receptors. Carnosine is highly concentrated in your nerves, heart, and muscles and is known to exert antioxidant and anti-aging activity – making it a generally great nutrient, especially for stress management. This is why I included it in our popular Stress Helper® formula, along with Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Pantethine. All three of these nutrients boost stress tolerance and mood, while supporting the healthy function of fat metabolism in a variety of ways. It is also interesting that the atypical antipsychotic medications that make kids and adults fat and diabetic seek to control mood by blocking the function of histamine in the brain, the exact opposite metabolic affect of carnosine.
