Calcium and Vitamin D for Fat Burning

A new study in overweight women shows that 900 mg per day of supplemental calcium increases their ability to burn fat for fuel.  This ability is enhanced by vitamin D status.

Increased calcium intake has already been shown to have a favorable affect on reducing the cravings for carbohydrates, information I have covered in earlier writing.  This study is interesting because it shows that supplemental calcium directly boosts fat burning whether you are craving carbohydrates or not.

Vitamin D is gaining status as a wonder nutrient.  Proper vitamin D status was directly linked to better fat burning and a smaller waistline.  It is quite likely that as winter months wear on and vitamin D levels drop individuals pack on extra pounds in January, February, and March.  It is likely that weight gain over the winter could be a key sign of a lack of vitamin D, requiring anywhere from 2000 to 5000 IU per day to correct the problem.  One way to judge vitamin D adequacy in the winter may be a lack of weight gain or losing weight when the dose is increased.  Now that it is summer, just get some sun to help replenish your vitamin D levels that were depleted from the long winter.

Nutrients like Daily Bone Xcel (5 per day) and Bone Helper (3 per day) will ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D for basic fat burning needs, as well as significantly supporting bone health.  If you really have carbohydrate cravings then try 2-4 capsules of Calcium AEP when they happen, it can make a big difference.
