Aerobics and Strength Training Improve Blood Sugar Control

I am often asked what exercise is best for weight loss and health in general.  The answer is: any exercise – and many new studies show a combination of various types of exercise are superior to any one form of exercise by itself.

In the most recent study a combination of aerobics and strength training was far superior for improving blood sugar metabolism in type II diabetics, compared to either form of exercise itself.  Of course, any form of exercise was better than none.  This is basic common sense, as different forms of exercise condition different aspects of calorie utilization and metabolic fitness.  The more active a person, including exercises related to significant exertion, the healthier they are likely to be.

Nutrients that enhance the recovery from exercise help a person to avoid injury or negative effects of exercise and gradually build improved fitness.  This is true even for those who start with limited exercise ability.
