Byron Richards, CCN
Byron J. Richards, Founder/Director of Wellness Resources, Inc., is a Board-Certified Clinical Nutritionist and has been a charter professional member of the International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionists (IAACN) since 1991. His professional experience with nutrition, thyroid, and weight issues dates back to 1985 when he began working as the nutritionist for one of our nation’s leading thyroid doctors, Keith W. Sehnert, MD. Time Magazine considered Dr. Sehnert the “George Washington of medical self-care.” He was one of the founding fathers of alternative health and sadly passed away in 1999. Together they were true pioneers in the area of thyroid health, hypothyroidism, and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.
Richards has helped thousands of individuals with complex health situations. In his ten years of working with Dr. Sehnert he helped patients suffering from some combination of thyroid problems, weight issues, Candida albicans, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, adrenal burnout, immune dysregulation, food intolerance/digestive complaints, depression, and chemical sensitivity. His in depth experience from the front lines of clinical nutrition can save you hours of wasted time by guiding you in the direction that is most likely to be of help. He can tell you how to use nutrition effectively for any health issue.
Wellness Resources became a place of last resort for many individuals who had lost all hope trying to sort out their multiple health issues. Many of Richards’ clients were unable to tolerate the fillers, binders, and low-grade nutrients in typical dietary supplements. In the 1990’s Richards met this challenge by formulating dietary supplements without additives, using only the finest quality forms of nutrients. Additionally, his advanced understanding of nutritional biochemistry combined with real-world clinical experience lead to the formulation of many unique nutritional products not available elsewhere.
He designed an entire line of dietary supplements that are tailored to meet the varying needs of individuals with the most difficult and “unsolvable” health issues. The Wellness Resources product line evolved in this results-demanding clinical environment. It became clear that Wellness Resources’ quality of ingredients and unique formulations set the new gold standard for the dietary supplement industry. While his products are often imitated by others, the quality is seldom ever matched. Of course, his formulations work well with healthy people too, true quality for the discerning consumer.
In 2002 Richards published his groundbreaking book, Mastering Leptin. He was the first nutritionist that explained what 5000 studies on the fat-hormone leptin meant to diet, weight management, thyroid function, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Prior to that time leptin research was the turf of drug companies looking for the next quick-fix pill. It was Richards who brought this groundbreaking information to the attention of the public. He was actually the first person to explain the complexity of leptin in simple terms, enabling both lay people and his peers to understand the importance of leptin as the commander in chief of metabolism. Quite predictably, others jumped on the leptin bandwagon. On this website you can learn from the expert who started it all.
Richards is a nationally-renowned health expert, radio personality, and educator. He is the creator and pioneer of The Leptin Diet® and has been a featured expert consultant on Fox News Live, CBS Infinity television (national syndication), and The Wall Street Journal. Richards has appeared on hundreds of radio programs throughout the country. He is also a staunch defender of health freedom and a national leader in the fight against the FDA’s desire to eliminate your natural health options. His book, Fight for Your Health: Exposing the FDA’s Betrayal of America is widely regarded as the top book on health freedom today (you may read it free on this website). He regularly reports on the shenanigans and gross negligence of Big Pharma and the FDA (profits at the expense of your health), and is well known around the world for bringing the truth to light. His riveting article, The Statin Scam Marches On, is a great example of the quality of his work.
Richards is also a pioneer in the field of psychoneuroimmunology. He has spent many years collecting patient information and coordinating information relating to nerve function, hormones, stress, and behavior. His unique tool, the Integrated Wellness Analysis (developed in the late 1980s), was the first computerized tool that analyzed several thousand discrete pieces of information relating to symptoms, behavior, and health. He has several online quizzes, including the original Thyroid Quiz and Leptin Quiz that help you to understand how these important issues relate to you.
His most recent book, the Leptin Diet, outlines the key points that every person needs to understand about how their body works. It is the owners manual for your body. Don’t go through life at the mercy of your cravings and other metabolic issues. Learn how you can be in charge once and for all. The major discovery that stored fat is actually a metabolic organ has turned conventional health advice on its head. Thyroid problems are now solvable.
Don’t be left in the Stone Age taking advice from people with a deficient understanding of health. Be on the cutting edge and be in the know. You can keep up to date with Mr. Richards’ expert analysis of the breaking health news by simply signing up for his free e-newsletter.

A variety of reports in the past decade have indicated that calcium may be a helpful weight loss nutrient. This prompted the dairy industry to widely promote milk as a weight loss food. On May 5, 2008 a press release reports on an article that will soon appear in the Nutritional Reviews journal that states “neither dairy nor calcium intake promotes weight loss.” For consumers this simply becomes another “butter vs. margarine” or “are eggs good or bad” dilemma. Extra calcium is one tool that can actually help many people to lose weight in a healthy way.
Multiple vitamins are taken by at least 50% of American adults and 25% of teenagers. It is common knowledge that our food supply is lacking key nutrients that support health. Yet, the quality of multiple vitamins varies dramatically as the majority of the dietary supplement industry falls into the “fast food” category. Junk vitamins, like junk food, should be avoided. Educate yourself and know the difference.
Junky vitamins are often passed off as quality, and many times endorsed by a physician or celebrity. There are many tricks that low quality supplement companies use to hide their poor quality, spending more money on marketing than on what is under the hood.
It remains a considerable challenge for the American public to find fresh food of adequate quality. We all know we should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, but many of them are contaminated with pesticides, fungicides, and insecticides. Virtually all chemicals used work by poisoning the nervous system of the pest, meaning they are fat-soluble and able to irritate the lining of your arteries and cross your blood brain barrier. Levels far below what causes cancer are able to initiate metabolic disruption, thyroid dysfunction, and cardiovascular irritation.
It is now clear that cell phones emit radiofrequency radiation into the brain of the user. Cell studies clearly show that this level of exposure can trigger brain cell inflammation and brain cell death by inducing DNA damage and generating massive numbers of free radicals. Such brain cell damage has been proven with 2 hours of continuous exposure.
While there is no quick fix for cellulite, there are definite things you can do to stop the problem from getting worse and even improve the appearance of the problem.
It is a colossal failure on the part of our government to not warn parents of the actual risks associated with vaccines. The blind insistence that vaccines are safe and effective is not supported by science, at least for a significant number of our children. There are now 25,000 children per year developing autism (1 in 150), a problem that has expanded in direct proportion to the increase in vaccinations. How do you know if your child is at risk?
For the first time the release of endorphins from the human brain in response to a two-hour run has been proven. The theory of the runner’s high has been around for quite a while but never proven in a scientific lab. In the current experiment sophisticated brain PET scans were taken before and after running. The evidence showed release of endorphins from specific brain regions known to process pain. It could very well be that running is ingrained in our genetics at a core level of survival…
Tocotrienols should be a main part of any person’s dietary supplement program. Not only do they offer superior antioxidant protection, they work in numerous other ways to provide powerful health protection – especially to your brain and circulatory system.
2008 had been a very mild season for the flu, until last week. Now it is in full swing. The Center for Disease Control has issued a report stating that this year’s flu shot was only 40% effective and that Americans are being exposed to several unexpected viruses that are now sweeping the country. The CDC also reports a 500% increase (from under 1% to 4.5%) in viral infections that are resistance to anti-viral drugs.
