Congressman Calls for FDA Chief Resignation

In the face of mounting drug scandals and perjured congressional testimony, a key House Democrat, Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), told the Associated Press that FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach should step down. Stupak sites a “total lack of leadership” as it becomes plainly apparent that the FDA is unable to protect Americans from the dangers of drugs or ensure a safe food supply. The most troubling issue regarding FDA leadership is that many of these issues are due to gross negligence or taking the side of drug companies at the expense of human health.

Low Cholesterol Increases Cancer and Death Risk

In a major shot fired across the bow of the statin marketing machine, the levels of LDL cholesterol that are the artificial targets of “health” promoted by the American Heart Association (AHA) are now found to be associated with a significant increased risk of cancer and death.

Young People at Risk for Severe H1N1 Swine Flu

Health officials sounded alarm bells over the weekend as it has become clear that the H1N1 swine flu can attack the lower lungs causing viral pneumonia. Deterioration can be unusually rapid, starting at only 3-5 days into the illness and progressing to life-threatening within 24 hours. The virus can trigger clots in the lungs, meaning that standard ventilator care for pneumonia may not work.
