FDA, Bush, and Republicans Attack Citizen’s Health Rights

The FDA reform legislation passed by the House and Senate shows just how corrupt the politics for profit system in America has become. The idea that citizens would have no right to sue a drug company when they are injured or killed by a medication is a difficult pill to swallow. Especially in light of multiple scandals, many ongoing, wherein the FDA and drug companies selectively hide important risks from the public in an effort to protect the profits of Big Pharma at the expense of human health.

Before the dust settles on the Bernie Mac tragedy it is important for everyone to understand two things: 1) It is abnormal to die from pneumonia at age 50. 2) There are millions of Americans with autoimmune problems of one type or another at risk for the same fate as Bernie Mac.

The Excuse to Regulate – Control vs. Freedom

Americans are a freedom-loving people. Every July 4th we celebrate this fact. It is interesting that our government has a history of offering protection in exchange for a loss of freedom. On the surface this appears workable to many, mainly due to the unscrupulous individuals who harm others under the protection of everyone’s freedoms. Unfortunately for those of us who value freedom, hard work, act responsibly towards our fellow Americans, and genuinely try to be of help to others, there are plenty of slime bags figuring out new ways to con or injure people while they make money – not to mention our actual enemies. This leads to a never-ending drum beat for more regulation and consequent loss of freedom for all.
