Tocotrienols Offset Age-Related Immune System Decline

A new animal study with the tocotrienol form of vitamin E shows that tocotrienols can reverse the age-associated decline in immune cell proliferation.

Tocotrienols Protect Against the Sun’s UVB Radiation

Your skin has the ability to naturally activate its own defence system against UVB radiation. To do this it requires antioxidants within your skin to coordinate an optimal response. Antioxidants such as lycopene (tomatoes), ECGC (green tea), and the tocotrienol form of vitamin E have all been shown to help skin. The most recent study on this subject shows that gamma tocotrienol, but not plain vitamin E (d alpha tocopherol), is able to regulate gene signals in skin to reduce damage caused by IVB radiation.

Gamma Tocotrienol Protects Against Radiation Damage

Americans, compared to the people from any other country in the world, are exposed to the highest levels of radiation during medical CT scanning. Some are exposed to radiation during cancer treatment. And then there is radiation from your garden-variety X-rays, cell phones, microwaves, electric power lines, ionizing solar-flare radiation during plane flights, etc. A new animal study shows that gamma tocotrienol, a unique form of vitamin E, can protect against whole body radiation exposure.

Vitamin E from Tocotrienols and Tocopherols Prevent Alzheimer’s

Swedish researchers measured the blood levels of all 8 types of vitamin E in 232 cognitive-healthy subjects age 80+ and then followed them for 6 years to see who developed Alzheimer’s disease. The higher the blood levels of all four tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta) and all four tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta) the risk of developing Alzheimer’s was reduced up to 55%.

Tocotrienols May Help Immunizations Work Better

A two-month human study in healthy individuals found that taking tocotrienols every day, and then getting a tetanus vaccine, significantly improved the immune response to the vaccine.

Iodine, Tocotrienols, Berries, and Lipoic Acid to Protect Against Radiation Exposure

The unfolding events relating to Japan’s damaged nuclear reactors is raising the concern in the U.S. of a worst-case scenario of a meltdown with a consequent cloud of radioactive particles following the jet stream over to the U.S. The prevailing jet stream winds would impact Los Angeles to Alaska, and would include Hawaii. Radioactive pollution would reach the U.S. within 36 hours. It would then travel the typical jet stream across the U.S that you see on your daily weather programs. While we all hope this problem does not happen, and various experts may debate the severity of public health issues involved if it should, it never hurts to have a better understanding of the subject. What would you do if such a cloud was headed your way?

Tocotrienols Extend Telomeres and Turn Back the Clock

A study with human cells and tocotrienols has demonstrated potent anti-aging effects of tocotrienols, actually extending the length of telomeres while preventing damage to DNA. This study is knocking on the door of the fountain of youth.

Tocotrienol E Boosts HDL Cholesterol While Lowering Advanced Glycation End Products

The tocotrienol form of vitamin E is now on an anti-aging tear. Recently I reported how this form of vitamin E was shown to extend the length of telomeres, enabling cells to live longer. A new human study shows that it boosts protective HDL cholesterol while lowering a key marker of aging – advanced glycation end products. A new animal experiment shows that tocotrienols significantly reduce the damage from experimentally induced stroke. These new studies add even more evidence of the extreme health benefits offered by this special form of vitamin E, as I extensively reviewed in my previous article, Tocotrienols: Twenty Years of Dazzling Cardiovascular and Cancer Research.
