A new double-blind randomized
controlled study tested 300 mg of Coenzyme Q10 per day in patients with heart disease to see if it could improve their circulation and antioxidant defense system. Researchers called the results “remarkable” in terms of the ability of Q10 to restore faulty antioxidant defense systems in the circulation, particularly in those with the greatest health problems. There was a significant improvement in vascular relaxation in the Q10 group, showing that Q10 is a highly superior nutrient in supporting heart health.

Researchers at the University of California found that individuals who consume 17 or more different dietary supplements per day were found to be far more healthy than those who take no supplements or those who only take a multiple vitamin. The vitamin-taking group had much better nutrient concentrations in their blood and far lower amounts of disease-related biomarkers...

It is simple enough – floss and brush every day or it could be the cause of future cardiovascular disease. Numerous studies support this statement. The latest one shows that improving oral hygiene in generally healthy people directly reverses changes in arteries that otherwise lead to heart disease.

This year saw an exciting expansion of scientific knowledge in support of the field of nutrition and dietary supplements to benefit human health. The more scientists learn about genes the more they realize that it is nutrients that make all the difference in terms of being healthy. This should not come as a surprise to anyone, since our bodies evolved in the context of using nutrients to aid survival. In the following sections I rank the top 10 nutrients of the year (don’t leave home without them).

Q10 is a versatile anti-aging and cardiovascular support energizer. Several new studies show that it is a potent protector of the kidneys. This is good news since the decline of kidney health is associated with many metabolic and cardiovascular problems and is common in millions of Americans.

Peyronie's disease is a curvature of the penis due to plaque-like scar tissue build-up, affecting 3% - 8% of men. A new study demonstrates that 300 mg of Q10 per day for 24 weeks is of help.

In the 1990s the antioxidant coenzyme Q10 was recognized as one of the first high-powered anti-aging nutrients. Q10 is required for the final steps of energy production within cells and the lack of it with age results in cells dying faster – a fact that remains true to this day. Systems in your body that rely on high amounts of energy for optimal function, such as your heart and circulatory system, are especially helped by having an adequate supply of Q10. While Q10 is not the only nutrient involved with cardiovascular health, the lack of it as we age, is a major handicap.
