A Mother’s Leptin Problems Linked to Autism Risk
The importance of a mom being healthy body weight prior to pregnancy and having good nutritional status and eating habits has now been driven home by a new autism study. The study showed that children who develop early autism have significantly higher blood levels of leptin. CNN Helps Autism Debacle Blow Up in Government’s Face
On April 2, 2008 CNN spent the day bringing awareness to the problem of autism. Larry King’s segment, which included Jenny McCarthy along with a panel of guests, was particularly enlightening. My hat is off to Jenny, a celebrity mother who is making it quite uncomfortable for the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to ignore parents of autistic children seeking answers. Jaundice at Birth Increases Autism Risk
Danish research involving 733,826 children has linked having jaundice at birth to a 67% increased risk of developing Autism spectrum disorders. Among autistic children, almost 9 percent had jaundice as newborns, compared with 3 percent of other children. The risk is actually more than double for a child with jaundice born between October and March, and the risk disappears for jaundice children born between April and September – as the sun is needed to help clear the excess bilirubin of jaundice.Read More: Autism, jaundice
