Using nutrition to help compensate for gene weaknesses is a hot topic in today’s scientific research. A case in point is the risk for developing Alzheimer’s disease. 50% of patients have an active “bad” ApoE4 gene, which attaches to cell receptors on the surfaces of brain cells and causes these receptors to act like Velcro to attract amyloid beta protein and contribute to forming the brain tangles of Alzheimer’s. New research shows that intake of fish oil like DHA can offset this genetic weakness and help prevent the problem.
