Cranberry w/ Mangosteen: An added benefit for women

Byron wrote up a little piece naming some of the benefits of cranberry. Cranberry has been shown to be a helpful anti-bacterial when dealing with ulcers, gastritis and periodontal disease.

Well ladies, if you’ve ever had the pleasure of fighting off a urinary tract infection or bladder infection you know that prevention would have made your life a lot happier. Cranberry is your answer. It’s anti-bacterial properties help flush out the little buggers causing you so much pain.

Take our Mangosteen Plus which is a powerful antioxidant in addition to being supportive of urinary tract health!

Odd and Strange: Creativity as mirror and stress relieverOnce in awhile I feel the inspiration to jo

Once in awhile I feel the inspiration to jot down my thoughts in poem form. Whether I need to get something that is frustrating me out into the open so I can examine it or to try and form a whisper of an idea into something tangible, being able to put a pen to paper is a fantastic creative outlet.

Here is an excerpt one of these poems:

Odd and Strange

I told my cousins
I am odd and strange
Why they say?
You are hard on yourself.

No, I say, this is how I am perceived.
I do not follow tradition,
I am a woman of strength,
I stick to my mission,
my hopes and my dreams.

Stress and Mood: It’s not all in your head.

How often do you find yourself at the edge of your ability to cope with daily stress? Do you find that irritability is cyclical? Or do you just reach a point of fatigue where the tiniest little thing that goes wrong sets you off?

It seems obvious that if you feel a great amount of stress you’re likely to feel cranky. But have you ever stopped to wonder why it is that you can’t keep the bad mood at bay and deal with the thing that is stressing you out? Life would be easier if the stress response worked to motivate you to confront a stressful issue and leave it behind rather than stew in the resulting bad mood. Byron mentions the correlations between stress, energy and mood in his article.

Byron describes stress as a kind of friction. This is such an effective idea for the way stress feels when you’re experiencing it. Like Velcro or two pieces of sand paper rubbing together. Stress feels corrosive and wears you down unless your defenses are stronger than the stress.

Have you ever had a day where things felt easy? Like tasks that are tedious and mundane have a certain flow to them that makes them seem almost fun? This is the opposite of stress. Are you doing anything so different days you experience stress? Or are you just not capable of finding that flow? Your body had the nutrients it needed to support your mood and all the necessary processes at first.

Your body takes care of the basics: keep the heart pumping, the lungs breathing…mood gets the leftovers. If you ensure there are leftovers leftover even after your mood is fed you’re in good preventative shape.

It’s possible to set up the framework for having that sense of ease in the midst of stressful moments. Here are some suggestions that Byron also recommends in his article: Daily Energy Multi, Stress Helper, Thyroid Helper, RelaxaMag.

Oral Contraceptives can be a challenge for your heart.

There has been some question about what roll oral contraceptives play in the development of heart disease. Why is it that a main warning that accompanies “the pill” is “do not smoke especially if you’re of the age of 35 due to the risk of blood clots and stroke”?

As Byron states in his article about the FDA’s failure to have adequately followed up on the health risks associated with “the pill”, “The use of estrogen and progesterone to manipulate the menstrual cycle and pregnancy will be problematic for a percentage of women for a variety of reasons.  Any time a natural process is disrupted there will be side affects to some degree.  As far as the risk of plaque goes this will be a factor for women who have other risk factors and are already heading in that direction.  Some of the more common ones include:  family history, poor diet, too much stress, smoking, excess alcohol, etc.  The circulatory system is the weak link in the health chain, so using birth control pills with other cardiovascular risk factors will turn out to be a problem.  This is easy to predict based on existing science, but it is up to the FDA to clearly define the risks and paint a very clear picture.”

Essentially, artificially manipulating estrogen and phytoestrogen causes a low level inflammatory response that is responsible for arterial stress. If you are on the pill the best thing to do is incorporate daily supplements that are protective for your cardiovascular system and make nutritional choices that are rich in dark leafy green vegetables, dark berries and high quality protein.

Our cardio products include: Leptocardio Pack, Daily Super E, Leptinal, Daily Energy Multi-Vitamin, CoEnzyme Q10, and PoliBlue.

Feed your brain and your brilliance.

Reading the mayo clinic article on the Fosamax and Jaw Death connection (see blog below) and writing on the issue rang a loud alarm in my mind of an awful contradiction within the article that is meant to reassure the public about a drug with a very scary side effect. The words “safe” and “jaw death” appear in the same article. It seemed so absurd that it got me thinking about how little we question “authority” anymore. We sit and stare and read and shrug and think, “Wow, that’s terrible. Well, what’s next?” But we don’t feel any motivation to really consider the implications of the constant influx of information intelligently.

The purpose of dialog and discourse is to understand a subject more broadly and deeply. Ask questions and cry foul when something doesn’t sit well or goes against your grain. As with anything, if you only consume information and there’s never an outlet you get full and overwhelmed.

Many people exist in a perpetually fogged out state. How can humans, highly evolved and able to reason, be feeling so dopey on such a large scale? You’re sitting at your computer right now reading this blog. Take a little inventory. Do you feel lethargic, easily distractible, or fogged out? Are you running on over consumption of sugar, caffeine or even just too much information?

The habitual combination of processed foods lacking in nutrients and the constant barrage of health misinformation from fashion magazines, televisions, even doctors is “dumming up” America.

Sorry to break it to you, but you are not as smart as you could be. Let’s take a three-prong approach to change that:

• Feed your brain: DHA, Acetyl L Carnitine, Phosphytydyl Serine, Daily Protein, Bio active Bs as Super B Complex are crucial nutrients that sustain and promote brain activity.
• Move your body: Get up and take a walk. Your newly fortified blood could use a little help to flow to the places deep in your brain that need it.
• Take off your blinders: Pay attention to what you’re being sold and told. Is it in your best interest? Does your gut say there’s something to challenge? Trust yourself and be your own advocate.

Pregnancy and Mood: Pre-empting Post Partum Depression by demystifying Substance P

How about a little explanation for the pain associated with childbirth? As Byron discusses in his article about Postpartum nutrition, Substance P is the primary pain-modulating neuropeptide and simply put, it inundates your body during stressful situations and has a hard time getting cleared away if your body is worn down or nutritionally deficient. Too much residual substance P results in poor mood, anxiety, and “raw” nerves.

Is it any wonder that women experience feelings of depression following their deliveries if the basic coping mechanisms for stress can’t reset themselves? So, now that we know why those feelings come up and hang on what can you do about them?

1. Breast feeding helps you recover your cope by releasing endorphins and having an overall calming effect on your central nervous system. It’s also produces a feeling of connection between you and your baby. Not to mention you’ll drop whatever baby weight you gained through the process of nursing.

2. Eat high quality protein at every meal and your highest fat meal in the evening. It’s beneficial to your mood and overall nerve health as well as helping your baby to sleep better after his/her final nursing of the day.

3. Take supplements designed to support your mood. From our product line we recommend: Daily Protein Plus, Daily Energy Multi-Vitamin, Iosol Iodine, RelaxaMag, Quercetin, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Calcium AEP, Stress Helper, Thyroid Helper

Women and Hair Loss: How to strengthen your locks.

Let’s be honest, our hair holds a great deal of aesthetic importance for us. Hair frames our faces and drastically changes our look if it’s altered. Healthy hair is also a mark of overall health. Hair loss is more common in women than you’d expect. 1 in 3 women experience some level of hair loss. From a few strands on your jacket to bald patches, hair loss can be indicative of the need for repair and nutritional intervention.

Hair loss in women can have many causes: stress, medications, hormone imbalance, and nutrient deficiency. A protocol for stopping hair loss and filling up the reserves of nutrients in your body is to take 6 Sulfur Plus and 6 Super B Complex vitamins per day for a week. Once you have replenished nutrients you scale back the dosage to 2 per day as maintenance.

I do this whenever I notice my hair is coming out or looking less full. It’s stops the loss almost immediately and boosts energy as well. Taking Sulfur Plus gives you the added benefit of radiant skin. Sulfur is a beauty mineral and Sulfur and bio-active B vitamins together pack a nutritional wallop.

Eating well while you’re pregnant will help keep your kids slim.

Byron discusses this in his article about how Mother’s Healthy Choices Influence Obesity in Offspring.

I wanted to get a little bit more in depth about how this specifically worked for me and why the strength of a mother’s immune system and her overall wellness can directly benefit her baby.

First of all, keeping my weight managed and my fitness up through my pregnancy made delivery and the first experiences with my kids much more pleasant than some of the experiences I’ve heard from new moms who experienced a lot of weight gain and had sedentary lifestyles.

Following the principles of the Leptin Diet such as having high quality protein at breakfast and eating small meals that contain plenty of fruits and vegetables at lunch and dinner 5 to 6 hours apart is very effective means of not gaining too much weight during your pregnancy. Walk for exercise, briskly if it’s comfortable, there’s nothing better.

What getting into these eating habits allows you to do is train your body not to want the sugar and refined foods that will pack on pounds and be hard cravings to recover from as your pregnancy progresses. Understanding that everything you put into your body is meant to nourish your baby makes it easier to say no to what may seem like an uncontrollable urge for marshmallow fluff and pickled herring. Who is their right mind would eat that? Yuck.

Secondly, understanding your supplements is crucial to keeping you from getting deficient. Your body is under great nutritional demand when you’re pregnant and its main priority isn’t always you. That is why you need to reinforce your nutritional reserves.

These are the Prenatal Supplements we recommend to cover your baby bases:
Daily Super Pack, Blood Builder, DHA, Daily Energy Multi-Vitamin, Daily Bone Xcel, Iosol Iodine, GI Soother

Take the best possible care of yourself you can because your mini-me needs you to be healthy and happy throughout your pregnancy and ready for his/her arrival.

Pet’s need Daily Supplements too: How Cherry the puppy survived and thrives!

A puppy, that we would name Cherry when she came to live with us, was adopted from the Humane Society by our daughter’s friend but when she started showing symptoms of Parvo it became clear that the veterinary treatment needed was far too expensive for a full-time college student to manage. Typically, a puppy infected with Parvo would be put down because the virus is contagious and difficult to treat.

Byron and I agreed to save Cherry from this fate and nurse her back to health naturally. We gave her Immune Plus, Licorice extract, and other Immune Boosters in her water and she started to show drastic improvement and had a happy, healthy puppy life.

The Parvo had effects on her body and Cherry started showing signs of arthritis younger than most dogs her age. She could hardly get off her pillow at night to go out to the bathroom before she went to sleep and in the morning struggled to get up to go out with the other dogs. It was really sad to see Cherry deteriorating and it occurred to us that supplements might help to ease her pain.

Byron and I decided to give her Daily Builder. 1 to 2 capsules in of cream cheese and she would eat it all up. The first day we saw improvement and within a week she was getting up quickly off her doggie bed in the morning. She started behaving like she had as a puppy. Cherry was running around, jumping, and at night she was able to move with ease when it was time for her to go out before bed.

Byron, who takes the dogs out in the morning, noticed there was a huge difference. The difference in mobility and energy was like that of an 80 year old and a 3 year old!

Vacinations and Side Effects- Get Educated/Your Choice

Hello Melissa,

I agree with you, the decision on whether to vacinate or not, is a difficult decision as a mother.  I can not tell you whether to vacinate or not.  That is your choice and so it should be.

I commend you for educating yourself and can tell you or suggest that you continue to educate yourself on the pros and the cons of vacinations.
There is an abundance of good informaiton on the web on this topic.  Perhaps by googling “vacinations” side effects, you may find more pertinent information that will help you.

Clinical Nutritionist and health educator Byron Richards, wrote an article that explains a lot about this topic...it is a wonderful article, I encourage you to read it if you have not yet done so.  He explains what happens in infants that do react to too many vacinations, too soon.

As you have noticed dairy allergies with your child, this may be an important factor to consider.

Of course most doctors will try to make you feel “guilty” for not vacinating or not giving all “required” vacinations on their list.

I learned a long time ago that no doctor or nurse will make me feel “guilty” for being an educated mother who knows how to keep my children healthy, naturally and safely.  I will give you a clue...alot is about building strong bodies and strong immunities.

In my opinion, it is the doctors oftentimes that I feel should feel “guilty” for not properly educating thier clients, mothers of children on overall health and wellnesss, especially in the area of preventative and protective health.

That happens to be my specialty...prevention and also protecting good health.  I am proud that I have learned how to do this well over the years.  There is a lot to learn as a mother, especially a mother that really wants to keep thier children healthy as naturally and safely as possible.

This is one of my passions and mission in life, to help educate accurately just as many women/mothers as possible on how to keep their health and the health of thier children as good as possible, as naturally as possible.

I am sure that you will make the right decisions for your child.

Very Sincerely,

Mary

Women’s Network Walk and Picnic Lunch

Part of starting the Women’s Network was to reach out to women in the community and meet them in person to discuss women’s issues, solve problems and brainstorm about ways that the network could grow. Our first event is planned and I cannot wait to get out and take a walk around a lake free from ice and snow with a group of women who are passionate about wellness.

We’re going to meet up on the west side of Lake Harriet at 10:30 on May 20th to stretch and start mingling. At around 11:00 am we’ll begin our walk. It’s important to keep up a brisk pace and I tend to walk at a good clip but it is not necessary to be a triathlete to come on this walk. You’ll have walking buddies whatever speed you prefer. At noon we’ll stop for our picnic.

Bring a sack lunch, water and your friends for a fun filled day of conversation and exercise! More information and details will show up on he WRWN in the next few weeks.

Autism Day: Jenny McCarthy’s fight to raise awareness about Autism and vaccinations.

After being given a round of too many immunizations shortly before turning 2, Evan developed a fever and then stopped talking and began developing the “stims” or repetitive, self-stimulating behaviors that are referred to in the CNN article as Autism traits. The timing of his decline was too close to not have had involvement from the vaccinations he’d received.

Byron shed light on the vaccine preservative Thimersol being linked to a girl’s Autism development in this article and has talked at length about the importance of immune protective nutrition choices in early childhood development. An article in Discover Magazine titled Autism: It’s not just in the head, in May, 2007 touched on the systemic involvement of the GI tract as well as the vaccination connection to Autism.

McCarthy and her boyfriend Jim Carrey have becoming strident advocates for early intervention when Autism symptoms present as well as blowing the lid off of the Vaccine/Autism connection. She has called for the review of the individual infants personalized immunization schedules. She opposes (and we agree) the 36 “required” vaccinations given very early in life at one time, or very close together. This schedule is far too toxic, especially for children with suppressed immune systems. The damage from these vaccinations is oftentimes irreversible and life long. Byron has helped many children with this type of injury, to improve and get normalcy back into their lives.

The government and big pharmaceutical companies are either too sluggish or too greedy or both to admit any possible link between the blind adherence to vaccination requirements and Autism. It will take a grass-roots effort and lots of noise from angry parents, citizens and health professionals who can see the errors in judgment and the harm they’re doing to deal with this increasingly urgent issue.

McCarthy and Carrey are leading a march June 4th in Washington DC to raise awareness and have their voices heard. Visit the site for more information www.generationrescue.org.

Check with you state to find out if they allow (most do) a personal conscientious objection to giving your child all 36 vaccinations. I did this with my children to avoid the terrible list and toxic effects of too many vaccinations too soon. Here is a link to a site that gives links for each state’s immunization waiver form or more information about each state’s laws.

Take action and be informed about what’s going into your child’s body. There may be life-long developmental effects at stake!

Autism: Are we causing it? Can we stop it?

Why does this happen? What is short-circuiting the development of our children?

The ASA also says: “There is no known cause of Autism.”

No known cause also means, no known way to prevent it. Scary words for parents everywhere who monitor the development of their babies hoping that there are no telltale signs of neurological problems around the 18 month mark.

I touched on the concern about a preservative called Thimersol that contains mercury being in certain vaccines in the blog I wrote about the flu vaccine recommendation put forth by the CDC. Byron raised this issue in an article about the government having to concede that mercury from immunizations had indeed caused Autism symptoms in a little girl.

Could it be a delicate interplay between an unhealthy immune system in the mother and the resulting suppression of immune function in the child leading to a dangerously low tolerance for vaccine which is administered without thought of appropriateness or danger to the specific patient?

A blood test is in talk of being developed to chart the risk to a child developing Autism based on biological markers.

Once the cause is determined the most important next step must be prevention. The drug companies will churn out Autism “treatments” by the crate but it cannot be business as usual in the sickness industry. Ultimately, there will be environmental and nutritional contributing factors to the Autism epidemic. The bigger picture involves solving those problems and protecting our bodies and immune systems so that they are allowed to protect us.

Fosamax and Jaw Death! The stuff scary movies are made of…

In this article from the mayo clinic the question of the possibility of osteonecrosis being caused by the class of drugs used to treat bone disorders, bisphosphonates, is examined. The answer, and I’m paraphrasing, is “yeah, that happens once in a while and medical professional and researchers don’t know why but, keep taking your meds because it probably won’t happen to you.”

Think about that. Is that a good enough answer? Granted, the explanation is given that people who are already suffering from cancer or having dental issues are at a higher risk for osteonecrosis and if you don’t have these conditions your risk is lower. So, perhaps the risk to you personally is statistically small. Are you willing to take a chance drug that has the potential to destroy tissue in your body instead of making dietary changes and introducing supplements that are composed of the nutrients that make up your body and are designed to protect it?

I ride this point hard because it needs to hit home: Pharmaceuticals on the long-term are not offering your body anything in the way of building blocks and nutrients. It’s internal chemical warfare and your body submits only the symptoms to the onslaught of drugs while the underlying condition gains little actual improvement.

Once again, think for yourself and be aware of your alternatives. Take control of your wellness. Read up on what Wellness Resources has to offer in the way of bone health supplements: Daily Bone Xcel, Bone Helper, Daily Super Pack, Quercetin.

Drugs meant to protect your bones cause bone loss and fracture!

There has been so much talk in the media, in fitness magazines, and on high priced television commercials about bone loss and osteoporosis. One commercial in particular for Fosamax shows a beautiful silver haired woman staring out a window. She looks serene and then the voiceover states that, “Time is a thief.” Insinuating that time silently steals your bones and that the only way to win the battle against time and bone loss is to medicate. This false sense of security in a drug as the savior for your bones is reinforced repeatedly. Sally Field makes the same claim for a drug called Boniva, suggesting that the convenience of taking just one pill a month is the most important part about stopping bone loss.

Well, what if the pill you’re taking, convenient as it is, is causing bone loss. Byron wrote an enlightening article about the danger of osteoporosis medications and how they are being shown to cause low energy fractures, meaning that you could be doing very little and that because your bones have become so brittle they will not be able to support you and will break without much outside force. What a scary thought! Our inner structural support system is being dismantled. The very drugs that are marketed as a cure all and insurance against osteoporosis and osteopenia make the situation much worse. So many times drugs are put out on the market and pulled or reviewed only after there are adverse effects in too many people for the drug companies to ignore it.

Long-term prescription drug use of any kind causes toxicity and an overall decline in vibrant health. The reasons to educate yourself and protect your bones through supplementation and dietary choices are many! Don’t be discouraged. Bones are meant to support you and you can help them do that.

Byron and the team at Wellness Resources have been helping people fortify their bones for years and warning against the dangers of these medications as not only not being an effective preventative measure but as having the potential to cause harm. Sadly, the studies are proving that harm is being done.

Here are our high quality dietary supplement recommendations for the strength of your bones: Daily Bone Xcel, Bone Helper, Daily Super Pack, Quercetin.
