Emergency Alert (March 12, 2008) - The MOTHERS ACT is a bill before the Senate that could be passed at any time, already passed by the House, which sets up a nation-wide screening and education campaign to encourage the use of antidepressant drugs and other psychiatric drugs to pregnant and new moms. This is a blatant Big Pharma marketing effort that will expose mothers and babies to dangerous and unproven medications – completely paid for by you the taxpayer! These drugs have recently been shown to be ineffective at treating almost any kind of depression. These medications will cross the placenta in pregnant women and accumulate in the breast milk of nursing mothers – conducting a cruel experiment on the youngest and most vulnerable members in our society. This atrocity must be stopped.

Perchlorate Found in Infant Formulas

Scientists at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found perchlorate in the various brands of powdered baby formula that they tested.  Perchlorate is a thyroid toxin, and feeding it to babies is a really bad idea.  Unfortunately, the breast milk of women across the country has also been found to be contaminated with perchlorate.  Perchlorate in breast milk has also been found to displace iodine - leading to potential serious thyroid problems for infants.
