Whey Protein Activates Bone Building

Sunday, June 21, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

A cell study with whey protein1 shows that it activates the important bone building cells known as osteoblasts, in part by turning on gene signals important to bone building.

The authors concluded, “These results showed that the active component in the whey protein plays an important role in bone formation and a potential therapeutic role in osteoporosis by activating osteoblasts.”

Fine quality whey protein is a clearly superior source of protein calorie nutrition for many reasons, including direct support of healthy metabolism.  It is interesting to see that whey protein also possesses the ability to help activate bone formation.  Whey protein is also a good source of calcium.
