Vitamin K is needed to activate a compound within bone called osteocalcin Hormone secreted by osteoblasts for the bone formation process. It is also involved with pancreatic and insulin function and adiponectin secretion., which in turn attaches calcium to bone in proper three dimensional structure. Using advanced bone-imaging technology researchers have proved that humans with the highest vitamin k intake1 have the highest bone mineral density and improved aspects of bone strength.

The medical profession routinely suppresses the function of vitamin K with Coumadin, which will obviously lead to weaker bones. Ironically, if the lack of vitamin K is accompanied with a lack of vitamin D then the risk for calcification of arteries also goes up – meaning Coumadin also increase coronary artery calcification.  How doctors can sleep at night is beyond me.

Vitamin K is not a one-shot remedy for bones. Rather, it is a key part of your bone building team.
