A great deal of scientific testing is evaluating the benefits of calorie restriction on extended lifespan. True enough, most people eat too much and cutting back on calorie intake is a generally good idea. One of the values of following the Leptin Diet is that you can actually get more energy from less food because your hormonal regulation of energy systems works better. In practical terms, calorie restriction over the course of a lifetime is very difficult to follow, at least to the extent that seems relevant to many studies. In fact there is a fine line between anorexia that is unhealthy and calorie restriction that may promote health. A new animal study shows that R-Alpha Lipoic Acid1 has a favorable affect on metabolism that maintains much of the anti-aging profile of animals on a calorie restriction diet. R-Alpha Lipoic Acid is known to enhance the metabolism of carbohydrates and reduce the damage that excess sugar causes (reducing caramelization)., key adverse factors that speed up aging. The authors of this study concluded “a diet supplemented with lipoic acid can therefore act as mimetic of Dietary Restriction to extend survival.” Share:
