Olive Leaf Extract Protects Against UV Radiation

Tuesday, October 20, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

Add olive leaf extract and its active component, oleuropein, to the list of nutrients that protect your skin from UV radiation.

During an animal study researchers found that olive leaf extract and oleuropen1 “significantly inhibited increases in skin thickness and reductions in skin elasticity, and skin carcinogenesis and tumor growth.”

The researchers documented four gene signals inhibited by the nutrients that had the net result of reducing inflammation and protecting the skin from radiation – including changes in skin cells that result in cancer.
