Nutrients Stop Cognitive Decline

Thursday, February 12, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

Researchers at the University of Massachusetts1 have demonstrated that a mixture of fine quality dietary supplements (ALC, DHA Docosahexaenoic acid Essential omega 3 fatty acid integral to the health of all cell membranes, nerve and brain function. Must be gotten through the diet via cold water oceanic fish or some very limited plant sources or taken as a supplement., PS, and Lipoic Acid) can stop oxidative damage in the brains of animals, the type of damage that otherwise leads to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s.

During the experiment mice were exposed to a diet that promotes free radical damage, which typically causes cognitive decline.  The group of mice receiving quality brain nutrition, rich in antioxidants, experienced no cognitive decline from the diet.

The researchers concluded by saying, “These findings add to the growing body of research indicating that key dietary supplementation may delay the progression of age-related cognitive decline.”
