Mitochondria Take Center Stage

Cells have engines called mitochondria that crank out your energy supply.  Mitochondria problems are now implicated in a major way in issues such as autism, depression, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia.  Mitochondria have long been implicated in the aging process – improving the function of mitochondria may turn back the clock and worsened function speeds up decline.

On the important topic of cell division it has always been viewed that mitochondria provided energy so that the DNA in the nucleus of a cell could do its important work, including the cell division required for health and longevity.  A new study turns that view on its head.

Researchers at Texas A & M University have discovered that it is the mitochondria that signals the DNA to initiate cell division.  Apparently cells make a decision if they have enough energy to carry out division, a decision controlled by the mitochondria.  This profound discovery means that protecting and energizing mitochondria just became a topic of immense importance – if you would like to be healthy and live longer.

There are two main things to know about mitochondria:
1) They need a lot of antioxidants to protect themselves during normal energy production and even more if you are tired, stressed, or feeling worn down.  Once mitochondria are damaged – they are toast – and so goes your cell.  If this is happening too often then aging processes are speeded up.
2) They require various nutrients in order to produce energy.  These include co-enzyme B vitamins, Q10, Kreb’s bionutrients like malic acid, and magnesium.

I will be writing a lot more about mitochondria in the weeks to come – as it is very clear that they have now been elevated to a central role in cellular health transcending many other factors in importance.  The time you spend learning about them will be time will spent.

To cover your nutritional bases I suggest Daily Energy Multiple Vitamin (B vitamins and Kreb’s bionutrients) and Daily Protector (core antioxidants).  It is likely that most people would benefit from even greater antioxidant and energy-producing dietary supplement support.  A minimum amount of support is that which helps you maintain a good energy level throughout the day, is adequate to offset stress, and helps you offset any feeling of wear and tear.
