Lutein and Vitamin E Help Prevent Cataracts

A new study published in the Archives of Ophthalmology concluded that “higher dietary intakes of lutein/zeaxanthin and vitamin E from food and supplements were associated with significantly decreased risks of cataract.”  Lutein and zeaxanthin are natural antioxidant carotenes that are present in the lens of the eye.  Protecting the lens from the ionizing radiation of the sun requires adequate antioxidants, including vitamins C and E - as well as lutein and zeaxanthin.  Lutein also comprises the macular pigment in the eye so important for vision as one ages.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in green leafy vegetables.  When such carotenes are consumed they slowly accumulate in body tissues, including the eye, over time.  When they are not consumed then antioxidant reserves are lowered and problems follow.  In the study those with the highest intake of lutein and zeaxanthin were 20% less likely to develop cataracts and those with the higher intake of vitamin E were 14% less likely.

One capsule of Daily Protector provides more than the daily intake of lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin E reported in the study.  In a fast-paced world individuals do not always get the balanced diet they should, thus causing their antioxidant reserves to run low.  Eyesight is very sensitive to poor antioxidant status – and so is immunity.  Daily Protector is a true super-food concentrate providing antioxidants from a wide range of the finest vegetable and fruit extracts that are available anywhere.
