Low Folic Acid or Vitamin B6 Weaken Bones

Wednesday, October 21, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

Researchers have found that men and women with low folic acid or low vitamin B61 have alterations in their bones reflecting poorer bone health than those who have the highest levels of these important structure-support nutrients.

The researchers documented alterations in bone form when these nutrients are lacking.  They also found that the lack of B vitamins was associated with low levels of osteocalcin Hormone secreted by osteoblasts for the bone formation process. It is also involved with pancreatic and insulin function and adiponectin secretion., an important signal that comes from the bone-building cells known as osteoblasts and it not only vital to bone rejuvenation but also important to the metabolism of blood sugar.  I explain the interesting role of osteocalcin Hormone secreted by osteoblasts for the bone formation process. It is also involved with pancreatic and insulin function and adiponectin secretion. in my article, The New World of Thyroid, Leptin, Blood Sugar, and Bone Strength.

While we often think of B vitamins for energy, mood, and stress management – this study points out that B vitamins are needed for many other aspects of health as well.
