Acne is a troubling problem for many teenagers and young adults.  A new study shows that a whey-derived nutrient, lactoferrin1, can reduce the amount of acne while helping to improve the condition of the skin.

Lactoferrin is known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.  In this study 18 young adults ages 18 – 30 were given 200 mg of lactoferrin per day for 12 weeks in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study.  Inflammation in acne lesions declined 38%, total number of acne lesions declined 23%, and acne grade was lessened 20%.  Lactoferrin reduced the amount of fat clogging the skin.

This study shows that lactoferrin can have a significant impact on helping to reduce acne.
