Iodine Needed for Optimal Growth

Pregnant mothers should be informed of the vital need for high quality iodine supplementation1, just as they are now told to take folic acid. It has long been known that iodine deficiency during pregnancy can result in reduced intelligence of the child. A new study shows that iodine also affects optimal rate of growth. In this study women lacking iodine were more likely to have poor thyroid function and low birth weight babies. There is no reason to handicap a child for life by failing to help that child thrive with adequate nutrition. Iodine is vital for pregnancy health. Share:
