Grapes Prevent Heart Damage

Friday, April 24, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

Grape seed extract works by multiple mechanisms to support your cardiovascular health.  A new study shows that in addition to blood pressure lowering effects, grapes1 activate the key cellular antioxidant enzyme called glutathione – specifically resulting in less damage to the heart.

Conditions of free radical stress can deplete glutathione, in turn making your heart and circulatory system much more prone to damage and increased risk for problems.  Such free radicals come from stress, a poor quality diet, pollution, illness, etc.  The fact that grapes can turn on genes that offer direct protection to the heart is an excellent finding.
