Grape Seed Extract Inhibits Alzheimer’s Plaque

Monday, June 23, 2008  -  Byron Richards, CCN

The abnormal accumulation of amyloid plaque between brain cells is the hallmark problem indicating Alzheimer’s disease.  A new animal study using mice that are bred to rapidly develop Alzheimer’s1 showed that the consumption of grape seed extracts significantly reduced the formation of by 30% – 35%. The grape seed mice also maintained cognitive function at a much higher level.

Even though this is an animal study it is a significant finding, as grape seed extracts are very safe.  An equivalent human dose to that given to the mice is 1000 mg per day.  While this is a fairly high dose of the nutrient it is likely that some will want to consider it, as it is also a great cardiovascular support nutrient for overall circulation (helps maintain flexibility and strength of arteries as well as making friendly nitric oxide to help vascular relaxation).
