Grape seed extract (GSE) is one of nature’s most versatile nutrients, acting as a strengthener of collagen, arteries, and your heart while providing potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. I have previously reviewed these attributes in my feature-length article, Grape Seed Extract’s Powerful Cardio Protection.  A number of recent studies are showing that GSE can increase the collagen strength within teeth, something the dental industry is considering using for better adhesion of composite resin to the dentin of teeth2.

These studies indicate the power of grape seed extract to re-enforce the tensile strength of collagen.  Think of a strand of collagen like a triple-stranded ski tow rope.  The strands are held together with linking structures that are dependent on vitamin C and the amino acid Building blocks of peptides and protein and have multiple roles of function in life including muscle function, growth, detoxification and metabolic pathways, and neurotransmitter function. lysine.  Under stress or wear and tear these collagen strands can unravel, leading to a loss of collagen elasticity and functional integrity (meaning aging).  GSE has a unique ability to directly act as a collagen bonding nutrient, thereby improving the strength and flexibility of collagen.

Earlier researchers have pointed out that this unique ability of GSE to improve collagen makes skin healthier and more elastic while also protecting it from the sun’s radiation – including lowering the risk for skin cancer4.  The same collagen-enhancing principles apply to collagen virtually everywhere in your body, helping to improve the flexibility of joints and the elasticity of arteries.

More recent studies show that GSE can protect against nerve damage from high blood sugar5 and the joint destruction of rheumatoid arthritis6.  Whether your structural problems are large or small, or you just want to do what you can to keep your collagen as youthful as possible for as long as possible, grape seed extract is a top choice nutrient for your anti-wear-and-tear team.
