Friendly Flora Reduces Childhood Infections

Wednesday, August 05, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

A double-blind placebo-controlled study shows that a daily supplement of friendly flora1 (lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium) significantly reduced infections and duration of illness in children ages 3 to 5 years of age.

The friendly flora group had 72% less fever, 62% fewer coughs, 58% less runny noses/colds.  Furthermore, if a child taking friendly flora did get some of these symptoms it lasted 48% less time.  Friendly flora users needed 84% less antibiotics and they were absent from day care 31% less.

It is now very clear that the health of the digestive tract is vital to a healthy immune response, including one helpful in reducing the likelihood and severity of the flu.  A simple capsule of a mixture of friendly flora types each day is another basic approach to supporting immunologic well being for people of any age – and in this case proven to be the case in young children.
