Dairy Products Support Healthy Blood Pressure

Friday, May 22, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

Data coming from the Rotterdam study1 shows that over a six year period higher intake of milk and milk products was associated with a 20% risk reduction for developing hypertension.  The study was in a patient population of 2245 participants, age 55 at the start, and did not have high blood pressure at the start of the study.

Certain factions in the alternative health arena insist that dairy is an inferior food that should be avoided.  Their data is woefully lacking.  While there are people who have dairy allergies and need to limit consumption, there is no data to support not having dairy products as part of a healthy diet.

Fine quality whey protein is one of the best low-fat and no cholesterol forms of dairy-derived protein.  It makes an excellent breakfast for those on the go.  Getting adequate protein at breakfast sets a good foundation for adrenal health and overall daily metabolism.
