Cranberry Prevents Bacterial Adhesion

Saturday, March 14, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

The power of cranberry as a natural tool to combat urinary tract infections continues to grow.  In a new study it was shown that the greater the concentration of cranberry1, the less the adherence capability of the infection.  If the infection can’t stick it doesn’t cause problems.

The researchers found that concentrates of cranberry proanthocyanidins (as found in dietary supplements) were effective, as was cranberry juice.  This is different than a germ-killing compound, it is a germ-tricking compound.  Its advantage is that there is no “war” to fight with the bacteria, which is always easier on the person.
