Peyronie’s disease is a curvature of the penis due to plaque-like scar tissue build-up, affecting 3 - 8% of men. A new study demonstrates that 300 mg of Q10 per day1 for 24 weeks is of help.

Peyronie’s disease is essentially an inability of the penis to heal correctly. It some cases it also causes erectile dysfunction and/or painful intercourse. In this double blind study those taking Q10 had reduced plaque, less curvature, and improved sexual function.

An earlier study has shown that the nutrient acetyl-l-carnitine2 (ALC) at the dose of 1000 mg per day for 3 months was also of help. ALC is known to support healthy male function, and like Q10 helps blood pressure.

It makes sense to also address this problem with a nutrient like bromelain, which naturally boosts up the dissolving of old scar tissue. In a broader sense issues involving circulation, anti-oxidant defense systems, anti-inflammatory defense systems, and tissue rejuvenation may all be involved. It is likely that a comprehensive program to address multiple existing health issues, which will vary from person to person, has the best chance of making a difference. There is very little funding for studies in this area as well as very little help from doctors and drugs. Thus, suggestions in this paragraph are not backed by studies, have no downside, and are based on common sense regarding what is occurring. There is science to support using Q10 and ALC on a daily basis.
