In 1982, 2.5 million children had asthma.  This number has skyrocketed to 7 million children in 2009 (9.4% of children).  This is a national disgrace.  It is no doubt a combination of pollution exposure, a lack of sun, family stress, gaining weight, and too much high-sugar junk food.  A new study shows that a lack of vitamin D1 is common in children and the degree of the lack of vitamin D is associated with a higher need for drugs.

That correlation tells you that vitamin D adequacy is a major reason for not getting asthma, even when being constantly exposed to respiratory irritants such as pollution.  Why?  Because vitamin D is the main nutrient responsible for your immune system’s tolerance – meaning how much stress of any kind can your immune system handle before its starts hyper-reacting.

It is high time that the FDA and the medical establishment get off their “Earth is flat” soapbox and publicly state that nutrition does indeed treat and prevent disease.  There are many examples.  70% of children are lacking vitamin D, placing them at high risk for developing asthma.  If there was an expensive vaccine to stop asthma you can rest assured that every child would be on it tomorrow.  Vitamin D is safe, effective, and inexpensive.
