Carnosine Offsets Liver Aging

Monday, June 15, 2009  -  Byron Richards, CCN

A new animal study shows that supplemental carnosine1 significantly reduces the free radical damage in the liver that typically occurs in older rats.  Free radical damage to cells is of course a common theme involved with aging.  Carnosine has received a lot of attention for its age-associated antioxidant properties.

In the current study carnosine not only reduced various markers of liver damage, it has a synergistic effect on propping up levels of antioxidant vitamin E and super oxide dismutase.

The increasing body of carnosine science makes it a great tool for stress management as well as longevity.
