Several very poorly constructed studies in the past few years have tried to scare women into not talking calcium. The latest study shows just how bogus this intentional anti-vitamin campaign is. It is now clear that women who take 1000 mg of supplemental calcium per day live longer. “Our study found daily use of calcium supplements was associated with a lower risk of death among women,” said the study’s lead author, David Goltzman, MD, of McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

The study followed 9,033 participants for 10 years, recording calcium intake from all sources, including supplements. A statistically significant 22 percent reduction in mortality for women who consumed 1,000 mg of supplemental calcium per day was identified. Calcium from any source was helpful, with better chances of living longer associated with higher calcium intake.
