Calcium and Vitamin D Reduces the Risk for Breast and Colon Cancer

A New Zealand study of 36,282 postmenopausal women taking 1000 mg of calcium and 400 IU of vitamin D per day reduced the risk of invasive breast cancer by 20 percent and the risk of colon cancer by 17 percent. Women often take these nutrients as part of a bone support program. And while the dose of 400 IU of vitamin D in this study is minimal, it still made a large difference to breast cancer risk. I’m sure the results would have been even better had the women optimized their vitamin D intake. At any rate, isn’t it nice that basic nutrients can be so important for multiple health topics. Share:
