Beta Carotene Protects Your Skin from Sunburn

A new meta-analysis of previous beta carotene studies has found that beta carotene offers significant protection from sunburn, a result that shows up after 10 weeks of consistent supplement use and continues to improve over time.

Beta carotene is an antioxidant that naturally occurs in your skin, contributing to your body’s natural ability to deactivate free radicals that are generated by the sun’s ionizing radiation.  The clear advantage of beta carotene compared to potentially toxic sunscreens is that it provides protection everywhere.

Never use synthetic beta carotene as it may actually induce an increase in free radical damage.  The source of the natural beta carotene is always listed on the label of a dietary supplement, otherwise it is synthetic.  The Wellness Resources Daily Protector is an excellent example of a fine quality multiple antioxidant that is rich in natural beta carotene as well as other carotenes that are highly protective of eyesight.*

Sun exposure is vital for health – which is why so many people feel much better when they are out in the sun for a period of time.  Of course, it is never a good idea to burn.  Not only does sun exposure increase vitamin D synthesis, it also provides photon energy needed by cells.  While photon energy is poorly understood by modern health science – a dose of it obviously feels good to just about anyone.
