Add Cranberry to the Anti-Cancer Arsenal

New research shows that ovarian cancer cells pretreated with exposure to cranberry extract rich in antioxidants enabled chemo drugs to kill the cancer cells six times more effectively than untreated cells. This is certainly a major finding for women undergoing ovarian cancer treatment as one of the biggest problems is that cancer develops resistance to the chemo drugs. Cranberry by itself also showed the ability to reduce and prevent the spreading of some types of cancer cells. Many fruits possess potent antioxidants called proanthocyanadins; and cranberry is rich in the “A type” which is not common in most fruits. Cranberry is well known as a natural diuretic, urinary tract antiseptic, and heart-friendly antioxidant.
