ACCORD Trial Highlights the Failure of Western Medicine

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

The ACCORD (Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes) Trial is proving to be a complete flop. Its purpose was to aggressively use drugs to lower blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol in type II diabetic patients so as to prevent heart disease. One day it may sink in to the multibillion-dollar-per-year fraud of Big Pharma and Western Medicine that there is a huge difference in drugging people so numbers look better compared to having good numbers because you are healthy. Even TIME magazine is featuring the story of the failure of drugs to cure type II diabetes.
Fosamax Scare: ABC Shines Light on Spontaneously Breaking Bones

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Another drug debacle is blowing up in the corrupt face of the FDA. I have reported for years that Fosamax and similar drugs are one of the greatest con jobs ever perpetrated on women (statins and mental health drugs hold the top spots). Now ABC news is highlighting the fact that women who have faithfully taken their Fosamax, which is known to create highly disorganized and chaotic bone structure, are experiencing spontaneously breaking femur bones from doing virtually nothing.
Insulin Therapy in Type II Diabetics Increases Cancer Risk

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

First the researchers prove that insulin drugs used by type II diabetic patients increase the risk for cancer. Then the researchers try to explain why what they proved is no big deal – an apparent effort to escape the wrath of the insulin-prescribing medical profession.
McCain’s Anti-Supplement Bill Appears Dead – For Now

Monday, March 08, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Senator John McCain showed his true colors as a big-government regulator when he recently introduced a bill, S.3002, that would have drastically impaired access to dietary supplements in the U.S. He expected his bill to be popular, at least amongst Democrats, and did not expect any significant opposition. After all, McCain is in a serious primary struggle with J.D. Hayworth and could very well lose his Senate seat in Arizona’s August primary vote. The fact that he seriously misrepresented the dietary supplement industry to promote this legislation quickly showed him as not even understanding his own bill. Then he found himself on the receiving end of communications from tens of thousands of irate supplement users – as did many other members of Congress. Now he is trying to quietly back out, as his staff has acknowledged that he has withdrawn support for his own bill.
The Risk of Death from Hospital Surgeries

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

A near unbelievable report was published this week in the Archives of Internal Medicine. It showed that in 2006 48,000 Americans who went to a hospital for surgery were killed by infections acquired while at the hospital. This included many people who were generally healthy and having routine surgery. The cost to the health care system for this medical ineptitude was 8 billion dollars.
Avandia is Killing Americans, FDA Negligence Comes Front and Center

Monday, February 22, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

It appears the new FDA leadership is not much different than the last administration, as the diabetes drug Avandia killed 304 people in the third quarter of 2009 while the FDA dragged its feet. The scandal is hitting a fever pitch as the New York Times and Washington Post feature stories on a bipartisan Senate investigatory report released over the weekend. It criticizes GlaxoSmithKline for failing to warn patients years earlier that Avandia was potentially deadly. “Instead, G.S.K. executives attempted to intimidate independent physicians, focused on strategies to minimize or misrepresent findings that Avandia may increase cardiovascular risk, and sought ways to downplay findings that a competing drug might reduce cardiovascular risk,” concludes the report, which was overseen by Senator Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat, and Senator Charles E. Grassley, an Iowa Republican.
Diabetes Drugs Actos & Avandia Increase Bone Fracture Rate

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Actos and Avandia shouldn’t even be on the market as they have already been proven to cause heart failure. Now it is clear they also cause abnormal bone fractures. People who are type II diabetic are already at increased risk for both of these problems anyway. Why on earth would they want to take a medication that increases the risk for both problems even further.
High Fructose Death Syrup Linked to Pancreatic Cancer

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

High fructose corn syrup should be banned from the food supply. The latest evidence comes from a large study of 60, 524 participants over a 14 year period. Those who consumed on average 5 high fructose corn syrup sweetened sodas per week had nearly double the risk for developing deadly pancreatic cancer.
FDA Expands Poisoning of Americans with Statins

Tuesday, February 09, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

The FDA under the Obama administration is proving no different, maybe even worse, than the Bush and Clinton versions. It is now allowing the sales of Crestor to prevent heart disease in people who do not have cholesterol problems. Remember, this is the drug that FDA whistleblower Dr. David Graham told Congress was too dangerous to be on the market for any reason.
Newsweek Exposes the Fraud of Antidepressants

Tuesday, February 02, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

In a blistering article Newsweek explains the story of the cover up of the ineffectiveness of antidepressants. Americans are wondering how to contain health care costs. One of the best ways is for government programs not to pay for drug-based treatment options that cannot show effectiveness.
Health Scandal of the Decade – Monsanto’s GMO Perversion of Food

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

In the 2010 growing season Monsanto plans to unleash its latest Frankenfood experiment on the American and Canadian public, a new version of genetically mutated corn with eight abnormal gene traits called Genuity SmartStax corn. It is the culmination of an astonishing scandal that has been steadily building over the past decade. During this time Monsanto’s mutated seeds have grown to 90% of the U.S. soy crop and 85% of the corn crop – and wheat is next on their agenda. Their efforts have been marked by corporate bullying and have drawn the attention of the Justice Department who is conducting an antitrust investigation. All the while they have been spending millions on lobbying to fast track their agenda before the American public even realizes what hit them. Monsanto is making an ominous power play to corner the worldwide market on food and seeds. In the process they are adversely altering the very nature of food itself.
Bisphenol A Linked to Increased Rate of Heart Disease

Monday, January 18, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

While the FDA drags its feet on Bisphenol A (BPA) regulation so as to stave off a flood of lawsuits against the plastics industry, British researchers have documented that United States citizens have a 33% higher risk for coronary artery disease if they have higher levels of Bisphenol A.
FDA Continues to Drag Its Feet on Bisphenol A

Sunday, January 17, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

On January 15, 2010 the FDA issued a report saying, at along last, that it was concerned about Bisphenol A (BPA), a toxic additive in plastic so pervasive it is in 90% of urine samples. The FDA said it had “some concern about the potential effects of BPA on the brain, behavior, and prostate gland in fetuses, infants, and young children.”
Common Antidepressants Found Useless

Wednesday, January 06, 2010 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

A new study in JAMA finds that commonly used antidepressant medications are no better than placebo for mild to moderate depression. Since 13.5 million Americans who take antidepressants fall into this category, the total health expense for this fraud is 5 billion dollars per year.
Top 10 Health Scandals of 2009

Tuesday, December 29, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

2009 is another bumper crop year for health scandals, an unfortunate trend that shows no signs of improvement. To the contrary, consumers should do everything in their power to stay healthy as the Big Pharma-sponsored medical profession continues to induce millions of serious injuries and hundreds of thousands of deaths per year.
Prostate Cancer Treatment Causes Heart Disease and Diabetes

Thursday, December 17, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

One common treatment for prostate cancer is to use hormone-disrupting drugs to the point of chemical castration (depressing testosterone production to nothing). Another approach is actual castration. According to a new study, either procedure causes significant risk for heart disease, and chemical castration with a GnRH agonist also causes diabetes.
Antidepressants Linked to a 67% Increased Risk of Death

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Researchers followed 136,000 postmenopausal women taking part in the Women’s Health Initiative and found that those who started taking antidepressants during the study had a 67% increased risk of death from any cause during the 6 year follow-up period of the study. They also had double the risk for a hemorrhagic stroke or a fatal stroke.
Sally Field – The Boniva Drug Pimp

Tuesday, December 15, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

It is particularly nauseating to turn on the TV and watch Sally Field engage in blatant fraud while gullible consumers across the U.S. drive up the sales of Boniva (up 25% last year to 625 million dollars). Of course, the FDA and FTC are nowhere to be found when real fraud is going on; they only like attacking little dietary supplement companies that don’t have the resources to fight back.
Surprisingly High Cancer Risk from CT Scans

Tuesday, December 15, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Isn’t it nice to know that the medical profession caused 29,000 future cases of cancer in 2007 from the CT scans it performed on patients (a great tool for future business). Think twice before falling for a heart scan ad you hear on the radio; the risk for a woman getting cancer from it is 1 in 270. These are some of the remarkable numbers coming from two new studies published Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Common Phthalate Exposure Linked to ADHD

Tuesday, December 08, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Phthalates are commonly added to plastics to increase their flexibility and transparency. The are common in the average household and can readily leach into food. Virtually all Americans are exposed to phthalates as demonstrated by their presence in urine samples. A new human study shows that ADHD in school-age children is associated with the highest concentration or urinary metabolites of phthalates
Common Herbicide Found Toxic to Human Metabolism

Wednesday, December 02, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

After 60 years of worldwide use we now come to learn that the most widely used herbicide in the world is toxic to human metabolism. The herbicide, 2,4-D (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) is used for broadleaf weed control on crops such as cereal grains, corn, and lawn products. Over 1500 herbicide products use 2,4-D as an active ingredient. It is now implicated as a contributing factor for obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
Psych Meds Increase Risk for Preterm Delivery

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Big Pharma has no scruples when it comes to target markets. Children are high on the list – and pregnant women have moved into the crosshairs. The infamous Mother’s Act has now passed the House and sits in committee in the Senate. A new study shows that any woman taking psych meds during pregnancy doubles her risk of a pre-term delivery. That risk triples if the woman also has a history of depression. The news is unlikely to phase the Big Pharma push to get 80% of pregnant women on meds.
Sulfa Drug Antibiotics Linked to Birth Defects

Saturday, November 07, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Sulfa drugs are widely used to treat urinary tract infections during pregnancy. A new study by researchers at the Centers for Disease Control finds that taken during pregnancy they increase the risk for a variety of birth defects including: neural tube defects, various cardiovascular disorders, hernia, and shortened limb growth.
How the FDA, Big Pharma, and Doctors Cause Injury for Profit

Sunday, November 01, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

In some ways the health care in America is the finest in the world. In other ways it is a severe risk to health, even deadly. The dark side of this issue involves medication profits at the expense of human health. This questionable health care approach costs at least 200 billion dollars a year and involves the costs of the drugs themselves, the injuries they cause, and the appropriate law suits that follow. The perpetrators of this fraud are the pharmaceutical companies acting in tandem with the FDA, doctors paid under the table by Big Pharma, and gullible doctors willing to write off-label prescriptions based on the hype they hear from doctors on the take and Big Pharma sales reps.
New Science Questions Theory of Antidepressant Drugs

Friday, October 30, 2009 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN)

Eva Redei, David Lawrence Stein Professor of Psychiatry at Northwestern’s Feinberg School, has presented a study that throws a monkey wrench in the scientific rationale that is used to justify giving out antidepressant medication. She has clearly demonstrated, for the first time, that genes involved with stress are different from genes involved with depression. Since antidepressant medication is targeting stress-related function of neurotransmitters they are, in essence, missing the boat.
