Richards, CCN) In the face of mounting drug scandals and perjured congressional testimony, a key House Democrat, Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), told the Associated Press that FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach should step down. Stupak sites a “total lack of leadership” as it becomes plainly apparent that the FDA is unable to protect Americans from the dangers of drugs or ensure a safe food supply. The most troubling issue regarding FDA leadership is that many of these issues are due to gross negligence or taking the side of drug companies at the expense of human health. FDA Chief in Very Hot Water with CongressThursday, February 14, 2008 - (Byron J. Richards, CCN) It now appears that the FDA Chief Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D. has committed perjury before Congress. Unlike Roger Clemens, who also seems to be putting his foot in his mouth before Congress, von Eschenbach’s actions appeared to have allowed unnecessary deaths to Americans – hardly the mission of the FDA. By contrast, Roger Clemens is simply causing death to his own reputation. Hopefully Congress can quit wasting taxpayer money on baseball and get to the bottom of what is really going on at the FDA.
